about

Ira Kamin came to the Bay Area from Illinois in the 1960s with the guitarist Michael Bloomfield and promptly became a fixture on the San Francisco and Marin County music scenes. He contributed to the GRAMMY® nominated albums “Right Place, Wrong Time” (Otis Rush) and “Play These Blues as You Like Them” (Michael Bloomfield) and countless other albums, and can also be heard on the soundtrack of the legendary 1969 Haskell Wexler film “Medium Cool”. As a writer he penned multiple features for the San Francisco Chronicle and co-authored "Dizzy, Duke, the Count and Me: The Story of the Monterey Jazz Festival" with Festival co-founder Jimmy Lyons. The Chicago blues still pops through amidst the sheer physicality, aggressive tone clusters, and avant-garde flourishes of his singular piano style.

PC Muñoz is a percussionist, producer, and writer based in San Francisco. His body of work as an artist and producer includes GRAMMY®-nominated contemporary classical music with composer/cellist Joan Jeanrenaud as well as projects with classical/hip-hop artist Kev Choice, virtuoso Van-Anh Vo, rock legend Jackson Browne, and more. He was the 2022 Quinteto Latino Composer-in-Residence, and is a current Mosaic America Fellow; he is also one of the featured writers in the 2019 award-winning collection from University of Hawai’i Press, Indigenous Literatures from Micronesia (2019). His projects have been praised by NPR, DownBeat, Electronic Musician, and more. Visit: pcmunoz.com.

The album's title comes from a home for the aged in San Francisco, run by the Little Sisters of the Poor, where Ira and PC met 30+ years ago on a gig playing adventurous versions of Tin Pan Alley standards for the residents. Each piece on the album is named after a real individual they encountered at the Home. They went on to play many gigs together over the last three decades, from a stint in gospel great Dorothy Morrison's band to free-improv explorations in Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco. This is their second recorded collection together.
